Hi! I’m Joanne.
I am a mom to five children, a certified spiritual care practitioner, and an exvangelical who still believes in the sacred, the Creator, and that the world can be a better place.
When everything I thought I knew about the spiritual world shattered, spiritual direction held me. For two years, I yearned for a reset button because processing the pain and grief of losing a former way of life while having to mother five children and support a partner who processes differently felt impossible. I wanted a do-over from the beginning, not a reconstruction in the middle of my life.
Through spiritual direction, I found my God-given voice again. I embraced my own capacity to hold the tension of multiple truths, the complexity that is humanity, and the mystery that is life in this universe.
About Me
My Approach
Simply, I listen. Mothering five very different children shapes how I see, hear, and feel everything. I believe each person is made in Creator God’s image. As a spiritual care practitioner, I aim to reflect your God given uniqueness to you.
Though evangelical Christianity shaped how I practiced spirituality in the first half of my life, nature and listening to my elders and ancestors shape my spirituality today. When I listen, I listen with my whole being, and use terms you prefer when talking about the divine.

Great question! I use, “exvangelical” to mean someone who once lived with the evangelical worldview. Since the tender age of 9, I have believed in the triune God. My theology was formed and shaped by evangelical spaces, and most of my youth and young adult years included serving in a leadership capacity at church. This devotion to evangelicalism led to my decision to enroll in Fuller Seminary to earn a Masters of Divinity. Inspired by the ideology to “make disciples of all nations”, I moved to Taiwan and worked in evangelical Christian spaces for over 10 years.
Despite many questions, I clung tightly to the evangelical Christian worldview until it hurt my children, and I could no longer excuse the misalignment of evangelical Christianity with actual life. I still identify as a Christian - someone who believes and follows the teachings of Jesus Christ, though I no longer limit my understanding of God to published theological books. -
I primarily work with women of color, but am open to working with white women who are partnered with someone of color.

In short, spiritual direction is the sacred space created to connect with our spiritual selves.
I use the term “spiritual care practitioner” because it is more aligned with how I see my role as someone trusted to hold space for another’s spirituality.
I am constantly learning and forever evolving as a spiritual care practitioner - because each person I meet expands and challenges my ideas of what I think I know. -
My current fee is $100-$150 USD - though I let the client pay what she can. No questions asked.

Yes! I live in Taiwan! I was born and raised in California, and moved to Taiwan in my late twenties. My children were all born and raised here, and they constantly correct my Mandarin Chinese.

At best, my Chinese reading and writing level is at the local second grade level.. Conversationally, I can carry a conversation in Mandarin. If this level of Mandarin is okay with you, then YES, I can speak with you in Mandarin. <3
